How to View/Copy Headers of Mail

When sending a report of e-mail abuse (spam, harassment, fraud etc..) it is necessary to include the full internet headers. Most people (novice users especially) may not know. This page's pictures and text links will explain how it is done for a wide variety of e-mail software.

We want to help you on your computer with viewing headers of an e-mail and then copying the full internet headers so your abuse report will be accepted.Viewing the e-mail headers also answers the question where did this e-mail come from? since it's most likely going to be forged.

Microsoft Outlook Express Right click the message you wish to report and Choose "properties" Next in the popup properties window Click on the 'Details' Tab then right click the text inside this window choose "select all" Then right click it again and Choose "Copy" You can now close this details window up and Report Your Spam filling in the form and then right clicking the 'Details" window in the spam report form. Then choose "paste" again and you will see all the text from the headers appear in the form for you to submit.
Microsoft Outlook 2000/XP:

With your microsoft outlook open, single click to highlight the message then right click and choose "options". From the options section (as shown below) Go to the "Internet Headers" section in that window, position your mouse over the text in this box, drag over it with the left mouse button clicked to highlight the entire contents of that window. Next, right click and choose "copy", then return to the E-Mail spam report form and choose "paste".

Netscape Communicator:

As shown below, in communicator's mail section, click View then Headers and select "ALL". Then copy the entire message header (portion that appears before message body). Next, return to the report form and paste that information into the form's window.
